The term “ISIS” tends to be synanymous with “terrorist” in many people’s minds. They see terrorism as a cult that brainwashes its followers into military combat for an abstract goal of “freedom.” However, few terrorist choose their lifestyle just to follow the crowd. On the contrary, many of these supposedly brainwashed people are actually human beings. For the truth is that there are many very good reasons for joining militant groups. Perhaps the best reasons are to remove an already corrupt government, to protect their families, or to reunite their state. In this essay, then, closelt examining a terrorist group as compared to freedom fighters will show that our perception of both are skewed by our own biases.
